K-9 Training and Certification Provider

The City of Los Angeles Harbor Department is seeking a consultant to provide K-9 training services to the Los Angeles Port Police. The selected consultant will be responsible for training canines and their handlers in various disciplines, including patrol and narcotics/explosives detection. The consultant must have practical experience in law enforcement-related tactics and demonstrated knowledge of current local, state, and federal laws regulating canine deployments. The contract is expected to be for a duration of three years. Key responsibilities include providing up to two 12-hour training days per quarter, being available to testify in court, providing input on canine unit policies and protocols, and maintaining training records. • The consultant must have expertise in training canines and their handlers in various disciplines. • The consultant must possess practical experience in law enforcement-related tactics used in canine deployments. • The consultant must have demonstrated knowledge of current local, state, and federal laws regulating canine deployments. • The consultant must have significant experience in the training and preparation of a police canine team for both detection and patrol-related deployments. • The consultant must have practical experience as both a supervisor and trainer in a law enforcement setting.
