Description

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking qualified towing firms to provide on‑call, pre‑positioned emergency towing services for snow, ice, hurricane, and other emergencies within the Richmond District. The solicitation covers heavy‑ and light‑duty wrecker coverage at three distinct locations, requiring a minimum of two wrecker units per location. Services are to be available on an as‑needed basis during emergency events to clear stalled, abandoned, or stuck vehicles from roadways. • Provide 2 heavy‑duty wrecker units and 2 light‑duty wrecker units at each of three designated locations (Rt 288/I‑295, I‑95/I‑295 Parham Road, I‑95/Rt 150). • Operate on a pre‑positioned, on‑call basis for snow, ice, hurricane, or other emergencies within the Richmond District. • Respond promptly to clear roadway obstructions, ensuring safety and continuity of traffic flow during emergency events.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

No contract value is disclosed. Based on typical hourly rates for heavy‑duty wreckers ($150‑$250 per hour) and light‑duty wreckers ($100‑$150 per hour), and assuming each location requires 2 units operating an average of 100 hours per emergency season, annual labor costs could range from $200,000 to $500,000. Additional expenses (fuel, equipment wear, administrative overhead) may push the total contract value toward the higher end of that range.
