Description

The O-Circuit program aims to develop a biological, converged Sense-Compute-Action system capable of using odorant detection information to control drone navigation tasks. The program consists of two Task Areas (TAs): TA1 focuses on developing a biological processing unit (BPU) with learning and computing memory capabilities, while TA2 focuses on integrating a BPU with a biologically based odorant sensing system and a drone navigation platform. The program seeks to create a new paradigm for sense-compute-act for edge applications, with potential applications in austere or electronically contested environments. • The program will explore new BPU architectures and quantify their capacity for computational learning and memory. • The program will develop a Sense-Compute-Action system that integrates a BPU with a biologically based odorant sensing system and a drone navigation platform. • The program will evaluate the performance of the BPU systems using a Government-provided virtual test environment. • The program will assess the ability of the BPU systems to detect and discriminate odorants. • The program will evaluate the ability of the BPU systems to navigate a drone to the location of a target odorant source.
