SOLE SOURCE - Atomic Force Microscope

The United States Naval Academy is seeking to purchase an atomic force microscope system for advanced research in chemistry, biochemistry, and biophysics. The system must include a state-of-the-art atomic force microscope with advanced imaging modules, a controller, and software. The system must be compatible with existing equipment and provide training and support services. The contract will be awarded on a sole source basis to Bruker Nano, Inc. • The atomic force microscope system must be a commercially available system with a national and international reputation. • The system must have automated, vertical, and software-controlled engage mechanisms to prevent user damage to tips or samples. • The system must have a height noise better than 30 pm RMS in typical imaging bandwidth. • The system must be able to perform all major scanning probe microscopy imaging modes, including contact mode, tapping mode, and high-resolution imaging mode. • The system must have an operating mode that minimizes user interaction and automatically optimizes imaging parameters. • The system must include vibration isolation and additional components to make the system operational. • Initial operational training and additional on-site detailed instrument and software training will be provided.
