Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for the Centers of Excellence in Genomic Science (CEGS) program. The goal of this program is to bring together interdisciplinary teams of investigators to address challenging biomedical questions from a genomics perspective. The CEGS program aims to develop innovative concepts, methods, approaches, tools, and technologies to achieve a transformative advance in genomics. Each center is expected to have outstanding scientific plans and management strategies that balance a high level of risk with the potential for high payoff. The program also aims to broaden the pool of researchers able to work in or use genomics and to disseminate CEGS-developed methods and tools to the broader research community. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • The CEGS program is a high-risk, high-reward funding mechanism that focuses on technology development linked to biological questions. • The program aims to address critical issues in genomic science, genomic medicine, computational genomics, or issues that cut across more than one of these areas. • Each center is required to have a high level of innovation and a transformative approach. • The program is open to a variety of applicants, including state governments, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, and non-profit organizations. • The estimated funding for this opportunity is $5,000,000, and the estimated award date is April 1, 2027.
