The Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, Division of Ecological Restoration, is publishing a Notice of Intent to Award Best Value Award for the Transitional Crossings Pilot Project. The project aims to advance preliminary design studies for two municipal sites, the Town of West Newbury: River Road Crossing and the City of Gloucester: Concord Street Crossing. The goal of the Pilot Project is to create and apply resilience guidance for replacement of stream crossings with wetland restoration potential in near-coastal environments that are transitioning from freshwater flow to tidal flow, due to impacts from sea level rise.
• The Selected Sites will work with an interagency and municipal technical advisory committee to administer, coordinate, and support DER in developing project designs.
• Completing preliminary designs for these sites will advance two case studies that were identified explicitly as transitional crossings.
• Completing technical services for these sites will add to existing knowledge and materials developed for the Pilot Project and support DER’s Transitional Crossing Guidance.
