Description

The U.S. Geological Survey seeks a qualified vendor to perform complete whole‑genome sequencing on bison DNA samples (hair, blood cards, tissue) to support the DOI Bison Metapopulation Strategy. The contractor will extract DNA, conduct quality control, prepare sequencing libraries, generate ≥20X coverage paired‑end 2×150 bp data on a high‑throughput platform, and return all unused material with full QC documentation. All work must be completed within 20 weeks of sample receipt, and the contractor must maintain a robust sample‑tracking system and report any issues within two business days. Evaluation will consider technical capability, past performance, and price, with the award going to the lowest‑priced technically acceptable offer.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $1,000,000

No contract value is disclosed. Based on typical commercial whole‑genome sequencing projects for large mammals (≈400 samples, $1,200–$2,500 per sample for 20X coverage, plus extraction and library prep), total spend could range from $500,000 to $1,000,000. The estimate assumes mid‑range pricing, inclusion of all QC documentation, and logistics for sample return.
