Description

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a qualified engineering firm to provide design services for the replacement of HVAC systems and hot water storage tanks at the Oakwood facility in Somerset, Kentucky. The project involves replacing existing HVAC units and 80-gallon hot water storage tanks in seven cottages, each averaging approximately 7,728 square feet. The selected firm will provide full design services, including field verification, design development, construction documents, procurement support, and construction administration. The project requires compliance with various standards, including FGI Guidelines and ASHRAE/ASHE 170 for ventilation, filtration, pressure relationships, and air change rates. Key aspects of the project include: • Replacement of existing HVAC units with systems meeting current hospital/caregiving requirements • Design for redundancy, allowing the largest tank to be offline without loss of service • Systems must support thermal eradication cycles capable of 77–82°C (170–180°F) • Provide corrosion-resistant tank materials and full recirculating loop design • Provide monitoring capabilities for temperature, sanitation, and Legionella risk management • Compliance with NEC and healthcare electrical safety requirements • Integration with the facility's Building Automation System (BAS/BMS) and secure remote monitoring • Cybersecurity requirements, including network isolation, password management, firmware updates, and protection of operational technology systems

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $1,500,000

The project budget for design and construction is $2,000,000.00. Considering the scope of work, which includes design services, replacement of HVAC units, and hot water storage tanks, the budget for the selected firm is likely to be a significant portion of this budget. Assuming the design services and other costs will account for a fraction of the total budget, the budget for the engineering firm could be in the range of $500,000 to $1,500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the firm's services will be a substantial part of the overall project cost. Factors influencing the likely payment range include the complexity of the design, the number of personnel involved, and the duration of the project.
