The Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk (FLCN) is seeking information on qualified sources for planning purposes to provide oceanographic surface drifting buoys. The buoys must operate remotely in the ocean environment and provide at a minimum the capability to collect ocean surface temperature data. The proposed instruments must be free-drifting and unpropelled, with their trajectory governed solely by environmental forces.
Some key requirements and considerations for the buoys include:
• The ability to collect ocean surface temperature data
• Optional capabilities for subsurface measurements, such as conductivity, temperature, and depth (CTD) or Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP)
• The ability to withstand ocean surface environments and survive air deployment from 500 to 10,000 feet above sea level
• Compliance with Department of War (DoW) Zero Trust architecture principles and current DoW encryption standards for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and mission data
• A warranty of up to one year prior to deployment and replacement of instruments that fail upon deployment due to instrument failures outside government control at no cost to the government
