Description

The USDA APHIS Wildlife Services NWRC is seeking a commercial partner to provide high‑volume Sanger and next‑generation sequencing (including Nanopore) for PRNP genotyping of wild cervids as part of its Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) research program. The contract will be an “Other than Firm Fixed‑Price” (OTFFP) arrangement lasting up to three years, with a base‑year and two option years. The contractor must deliver overnight turnaround for small batches and 2‑3‑day turnaround for larger batches, supply full AB1 files and quality scores, and work with custom oligos supplied by USDA. Performance metrics include ≥99% sequencing accuracy and ≥97% success rate. The award will be based on technical merit and fair‑and‑reasonable pricing. • Provide high‑volume Sanger sequencing and NGS (including Nanopore) for PRNP locus. • Meet ≥99% accuracy and ≥97% success rate on Sanger runs. • Turn‑around: overnight for tube orders, 2‑3 days for large orders. • Deliver full AB1 files and quality scores for every sample. • Use custom‑designed oligos supplied with samples. • Contract term: up to 3 years (base year + 2 option years). • Evaluation: technical advantage first, then price fairness; past performance considered. • Location of performance: USDA NWRC facilities in Fort Collins, CO (place of performance may vary).

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $600,000

The solicitation does not disclose a total contract value. Based on typical commercial sequencing rates (≈ $150–$300 per sample for high‑throughput Sanger/NGS) and the expected volume needed for a nationwide CWD surveillance program (potentially tens of thousands of samples per year), the annual spend could range from $200,000 to $500,000. Over a three‑year term, total contract value might be roughly $600,000–$1,500,000, depending on sample volume, sequencing platform mix, and any optional services.
