The U.S. Geological Survey’s Western Fisheries Research Center needs a contractor to replace an undersized VAV box and associated ductwork in a 30’ × 15’ × 12’ freezer room (Room D109) that houses 13 freezers producing ~31,000 Btu/hr of heat. The existing 400 CFM VAV box cannot maintain temperature, causing the room to run at 75 °F despite setpoints of 72 °F. The scope includes demolition of the current VAV box, duct, diffuser, and return grille; installation of a new 1,500 CFM VAV box, larger supply ducts, two supply diffusers, four return grilles, and a new 18‑inch return duct; and modification of a concrete floor opening. The Siemens control system will be retained and re‑installed. The work must integrate with the existing 36,000 CFM air handling unit without overloading it.
• Replace 400 CFM VAV box with 1,500 CFM Titus DESV VAV box
• Install new 14” × 18” supply duct and two 750 CFM diffusers
• Install four 325 CFM return grilles and new 18‑inch return duct
• Demolish existing diffuser, ductwork, and return grille assembly
• Adjust concrete floor opening for new duct size
• Retain and reinstall existing Siemens HVAC controller
• Ensure compatibility with existing 36,000 CFM AHU
• Provide all labor, materials, testing, and commissioning for the upgraded system.
