Upcoming Procurement: Chaboya Yard Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) Charging Infrastructure Project

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is procuring the Chaboya Yard Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) Charging Infrastructure Project using the Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) project delivery method. The project involves the installation of 55 overhead inverted pantograph type dispensers for Battery Electric Buses (BEBs), canopy structures for bus parking and overhead dispensers, and site modifications for a new electrical service and electrical distribution infrastructure. The project aims to support VTA's goal of operating a 100% Zero Emission fleet by 2040. Some key aspects of the project include: • Installation of BEB charging infrastructure with 55 overhead inverted pantograph type dispensers • Installation of canopy structures for bus parking and overhead dispensers with capability to install solar panels • Site modifications for a new electrical service and electrical distribution infrastructure • Maintenance of existing space allocations for bus driver training and contingency fleet operations throughout construction and post-installation phases • Design services to accommodate future solar panel installations and hydrogen fueling The project is currently at the 35% Preliminary Design stage, and VTA is preparing the procurement documents for this CMGC project.
