Description

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is issuing a notice of intent to award a sole source contract for the ruggedization and field testing of a Low Energy Portal (LEP) and Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs) prototype. The prototype aims to mitigate x-ray interference issues between LEP systems and RPMs at border ports of entry. The contract will be awarded to Astrophysics, Inc., and the primary place of performance will be in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. The period of performance is 6 months from the date of award. • The contract involves ruggedization of the LEP/RPM prototype and installation at the San Ysidro POE. • Field-testing will culminate in a Site Acceptance Test (SAT). • The results of this effort will be utilized by DHS and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to apply to future LEP builds. • The live testing of the synchronized solution aims to improve operational efficiency and support border security priorities.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this contract is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the scope of work and the fact that it is a sole source contract, it is likely that the budget will be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contract will involve significant research and development, testing, and installation of the prototype, which will require substantial resources and expertise. The actual budget may be higher or lower, depending on the specific requirements of the contract and the capabilities of the contractor.
