Description

The County of Calaveras is seeking proposals from qualified contractors for the Lily Gap Vegetative Maintenance, Unit 1 project. The project involves masticating underbrush and ladder fuels that have regenerated over the past 13 years, compromising fuel break functionality, community protection, and forest health. The primary goal is to restore the functionality of the Lily Gap fuel break by felling dead hazard trees, thinning/pruning overstocked saplings, and masticating hazardous fire fuels, brush, ladder fuels, slash, and logs. • The project area is approximately 156 acres, located on BLM land in northeast Calaveras County. • The project requires the contractor to masticate brush and conifers up to 11" DBH, leaving residual saplings and trees spaced an average of 25-35 feet apart. • The contractor must also remove hazard trees, dead and dying trees, and logs on the ground, while avoiding patches of noxious weeds and equipment exclusion zones. • The contractor will be required to provide a cost per acre, including services for both machine mastication and hand pruning, as applicable. • The contractor must comply with the Calaveras County Fire Plan and take measures to prevent the spread of noxious weeds and pathogens. • The contractor will be responsible for traffic control, equipment servicing and repair, and trash clean-up.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $250,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the cost per acre, which is not specified in the document. However, considering the project involves mastication and removal of underbrush and hazardous fuels on 156 acres of land, the cost per acre could range from $500 to $2,000, depending on the complexity of the project and the equipment required. Assuming an average cost per acre of $1,000, the total budget for the project could be around $156,000. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual budget could be higher or lower, depending on the contractor's bid and the county's budget.
