Description

Massachusetts’ Administrative Office of the Superior Court is seeking qualified individual court reporters to join a rolling‑enrollment “per‑diem” list that will provide live court‑reporting and transcript production for criminal trials in the Superior Court Department. Reporters will be assigned as needed, must respond to assignment notices within two business days, and must deliver transcripts within 120 days following a proceeding while complying with the Uniform Transcript Format and relevant administrative directives. Compensation is a statutory daily appearance fee (currently $334.21) plus mileage reimbursement, with additional per‑page transcription rates set by law. The contract runs for an initial three‑year term with up to three optional two‑year renewals, and the solicitation remains open for new applicants throughout the contract period. • Provide on‑site court reporting (live stenography or digital audio capture) for criminal proceedings. • Produce full, accurate transcripts in the Commonwealth’s Uniform Transcript Format within 120 days. • Travel to any Superior Court location in the state; mileage reimbursed at $0.45‑$0.62 per mile. • Meet strict qualifications: minimum age 18, consent to CORI background check, and either 10 years of relevant experience or a recognized court‑reporting certification (RPR, CVR/RVR, CSR).

Budget estimate

$25,000 – $120,000

Based on the statutory daily appearance fee of $334.21 plus mileage reimbursement, a reporter who works an average of 20 days per year would earn roughly $6,684 annually from the appearance fee alone. Adding typical transcription work (e.g., 500 pages per year at $3.00 per page) adds $1,500, bringing yearly earnings to about $8,200. Over the three‑year minimum term, total compensation could range from $25,000 (low usage) to $120,000 or more (high usage with extensive travel and transcription volume). The wide range reflects variability in assignment frequency, mileage, and transcription workload.
