Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics is seeking qualified vendors to provide manual coding of mortality and fetal‑death records for the National Vital Statistics System, along with quality‑control and validation coding services. The effort will be conducted under an indefinite‑delivery‑indefinite‑quantity (IDIQ) contract with a five‑year base period and four optional one‑year extensions. Vendors must demonstrate experience with ICD‑based cause‑of‑death coding, have NCHS‑certified nosologists or equivalent medical coders, and be able to operate within CDC’s secure IT environment (government‑furnished laptops, PIV cards, network access). The contract requires a minimum coding volume of 16,500 records per month in the base year, scaling to 25,000‑45,000 records per month, with strict error‑rate thresholds (< 4 % overall, < 2 % for quality‑review batches) and a compliance target of 98 % across performance metrics. • Manual coding of death‑certificate and fetal‑death records that cannot be processed electronically. • Provide qualified coding staff (nosologists) able to start work within one week of award and sustain weekday coverage. • Meet rigorous quality‑control standards and operate within CDC’s secure, government‑furnished computing environment.

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $30,000,000

The contract calls for 25,000‑45,000 records per month over up to five years. Assuming a typical industry rate of $5‑$15 per coded record, annual spend would range from roughly $2.1 million to $6.3 million, yielding a total contract value between about $10 million and $30 million. The estimate accounts for volume, per‑record rates, and the five‑year period with optional extensions.
