The County of Calaveras is seeking a contractor to provide fuels reduction services, including the removal of dense surface and ladder fuels, decreasing crown density, and retaining large fire-resistant trees. The project will focus on approximately 957.5 acres of ground and ladder fuels, and the thinning of crowded trees on USFS land. The primary objectives are to reduce ground fuels and ladder fuels, and to spread shreds and chips evenly across the landscape to suppress the regrowth of brush, control erosion, and conserve soil moisture.
• The project is divided into two large bid units based on location and access from public roads.
• The larger unit is subdivided into four treatment units for administrative purposes.
• The contractor will be responsible for removing dead and dying trees and hazard trees, and for masticating or decking them if they have commercial value for a subsequent timber sale.
• The contract will be awarded to the vendor that submits the most responsive proposal, as determined by the County of Calaveras.
