Description

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a vendor to provide a PillCam system, which is a non-invasive endoscopy procedure. The system includes a capsule that can be swallowed and images saved and retrieved by an external sensor unit. The system must be capable of full interface with the VA architecture for the Electronic Medical Record imaging section. The vendor must provide support and maintenance for the system, including troubleshooting and repair. The contract period is for one month, with a base period of performance from June 15, 2026, to July 15, 2026. Key features and requirements of the system include: • Single use capsule and link device to enable ingestion from the comfort of the exam room during healthcare appointment in the GI clinic. • The PillCams to data kit must be able to capture images as it moves through the digestive tract for retrieval and viewing. • Must have a workstation in the clinic for uploading data and subsequent viewing by the GI Specialist to view and decipher any pathology from the detailed images. • Workstation must allow the specialist to be able to select and embed chosen images into a formatted final report PDF that can be uploaded into the VA EMR. • System must be patient friendly so that they are able to easily swallow the pill camera and understand/follow instructions given at time of clinic visit by the specialized nursing staff. • System must be capable of saving and maintaining raw data images for duration of five years.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate without more specific information about the costs of the PillCam system and related equipment. However, based on the requirements of the opportunity, it is likely that the budget will be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the vendor will need to provide a comprehensive system, including the PillCam device, workstation, and software, as well as maintenance and support services. The actual budget may be higher or lower, depending on the specific requirements of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the vendor's proposed solution.
