Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research for a suite of high-specification nanopositioners and hexapods. The equipment is required for the development of new methods to non-destructively measure and characterize the structure of complex nanoscopic devices. The nanopositioners must be compatible with high-vacuum conditions and have optical encoders with a resolution of at least 1 nm or 3 micro-degrees and a repeatability better than 50 nm. • The suite includes a rotation stage, two separate 4-axes (XYZR) nanopositioners, two hexapod-like positioners, one optical tip/tilt mount, and all necessary controllers, cables, and peripherals. • The equipment must be compatible with existing SmarAct nanopositioners already in use at NIST. • The market research notice includes instructions for responding to the notice, which should not include proprietary information. • Respondents should provide information about their company, equipment, and services, including technical specifications, performance capabilities, and pricing information.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

Given the specialized nature of the equipment and the fact that NIST conducted market research to determine that only SmarAct Inc. can meet the minimum requirements, it is likely that the contract value will be substantial. The cost of high-specification nanopositioners and hexapods can range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on the complexity and precision of the equipment. Therefore, a rough estimate for the contract value could be between $200,000 and $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contract will include multiple pieces of equipment and related services, such as installation and maintenance.
