Irradiated Sani-chip Bedding

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking a contractor to provide irradiated Sani-chip bedding for use in animal research facilities. The bedding must meet specific technical requirements, including being composed of heat-treated, cube-cut type hardwood chip bedding, free of splinters, shavings, slivers, excessive dust, and all foreign matter. The contractor will be required to deliver the bedding to the FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) in Jefferson, Arkansas. The contract will be for a period of 5 years, with a guaranteed minimum of $6,500. • The bedding must be able to absorb moisture, minimize the growth of microorganisms, and dilute and limit animals' contact with excreta. • The bedding must be able to provide substrate for resting and sleeping, enhance animal well-being, and facilitate in-animal thermoregulation. • The contractor must be able to deliver the bedding in 2.2 cu. ft. bags, with a minimum order of 500 bags and a maximum order of 1,500 bags per order. • The contractor must be able to provide a written Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the maintenance and sanitation of the receiving, production, and storage areas.
